The PWSCC Cordova Extension is an outreach center of the main campus in Valdez, and is part of the University of Alaska Statewide system. Cordova is one of the most spectacular locations in a spectacular state. At the turn of the century, the town boomed, next to the Native Village of Eyak, as the terminus of the Copper River Railroad, which carried valuable copper ore from the Kennicott mines to the port of Cordova. Cordova is a fishing town, and retains its old time charm to this day. The Community College is a vital part of a community made up of artists, musicians, Coast Guard families, fishing families, Native peoples, scientists, and those employed by a wide number of local agencies and businesses. PWSCC Cordova offers courses leading to Associate's degrees and professional certificates. In addition, many skills courses are offered each semester in areas such as art, Hazwoper, EMT, computer applications, and fishing industry safety.
