Started in 2003, the PWSCC Drama Department presents two to three full-length shows a year, in addition to additional class performances of short work. The program is centered around the annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference, and focuses on giving its students a strong understanding in play construction and dramaturgy. In addition to traditional theatre students enrolled in the AFA in Playwriting degree program, productions also involve the Valdez community at large.
The principal instructor is Dawson Moore. His plays have been produced Off-Broadway and across the United States. He has won national awards for his short comedies Bile in the Afterlife, In a Red Sea, The Peach, The Bus, Burning, The Fears of Harold Shivvers, and Domestic Companion. His play Sixteen Dead Bodies Duct-Taped to a Merry-Go-Round, co-written with Lindsay Marianna Walker, was recently included in Applause Books’ The Best American Short Plays 2010-2011. He is the founding Co-Artistic Director of San Francisco’s Three Wise Monkeys Theatre Company, and is a member of New York’s Blue Roses Theatre Company. At PWSCC, he teaches acting, directing and playwriting.
