Alpha Psi Gamma, the Phi Theta Kappa affiliate, is challenging our campus to participate in a Do It in the Dark December Challenge. “Do It in the Dark” is the Environmental Action Coalition’s annual energy conservation competition. We would like to introduce the idea of this competition through a test run during our darkest month. This contest is an effort to encourage people to change their behaviors and save electricity. Join us in the Do It in the Dark Challenge for the month of December (through Winter Solstice). Select from the activities below and participate for three weeks trying to conserve energy. An energy efficient light bulb will go to the individual with the most points.
From December 2 to December 22 (Winter Solstice) keep track of your green energy saving practices from the list below.
· Turn off the lights when you leave the room (1 point for each day)
· Unplug at least one appliance when you’re not using it–your TV, DVD player, gaming system (1 point per appliance each day)
· Turn off your computer when you’re not using it (1 point for each day)
· Turn off the water when brushing your teeth (1/2 point each time)
· Shorten your shower (1/2 point each time)
· Change your light bulb to an energy-saving light (2 points per light bulb)
Choose at least ONE night to Do It in the Dark: pick one of the following activities:
· Enjoy dinner by candlelight
· Meditate (in the dark)
· Take a bubble bath with candles
· Take a walk and star gaze (be sure to turn the lights out when you go for the walk)
· Use your imagination and share another idea with us!
